Current state of SERMI
SERMI - Security-Related Vehicle Repair and Maintenance Information
SERMI has been first introduced in Sweden in October 2023. Followed by Norway, Denmark and Finland in February.
As of April 1, 2024 the SERMA regulation will come into effect for Austria, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal and Spain as well.
This will require workshop approval and employee authorization for the access to theft and security-related repair and maintenance information (RMI).
As a result, everyone who works with original manufacturer diagnostics and remote service requires SERMA certification.
The aim is to standardize authorization and authentication for access to data and functions in vehicles across the European Union.
However, SERMI does not replace registration and authorization directly at the manufacturer or the security certificate for decrypting the Security Gateway.

Theft and security-related repair and maintenance information (RMI) consists of information, software, functions and services that are required to repair and maintain the components installed in the vehicle, to prevent vehicles from being stolen or driven away or to enable the vehicle to be traced (e.g. immobilizer coding/programming, key programming).
There is no standardization for theft and security-related repair and maintenance information.
The classification varies depending on the vehicle manufacturer and model.
Who requires a SERMI certificate?
- If the workshop is only using the WOW! multi-brand diagnostics, no SERMI registration is required.
- If the workshop works with the WOW! Security Gateway Portal, no SERMI registration is required.
- If the workshop also uses WOW! DIALOOQ Remote, SERMI registration is necessary.
- If the workshop uses OE diagnostics in conjunction with PassThru, SERMI registration is necessary.
